Primative Tools Workshop (Mena FS)

Post by ouachita hiker on Tue Jan 05, 2010 11:02 am

Just thought I would give everyone a heads up. The

Primitive Tools Workshop that was canceled last spring,
due to Mena tornado, has been

rescheduled to Fri. and Sat. Feb. 19th and 20th. When I get more info I
will pass it on.

I still want to attend this workshop if I can. I'm still waiting on word about a LNT trainer workshop that same month though. Do I need to email Sharon again?

Chris,

I would go ahead and email her. She has been real good at answering my emails fast.
By the way she and all at the Mena office are very

appreciative

of our efforts. It has
gotten to the point if some one doesn't tell them the condition of the trail they won't
know anything about it. There isn't a backcountry ranger anymore.

Ok, here is some info for the workshop:

PRIMITIVE
TOOL WORKSHOP SCHEDULED

The Mena/Oden Ranger District has scheduled the free Primitive
Tool Workshop to instruct volunteers in proper safety, use, and care of tools
that can be used to keep trails passable in national
forest wilderness areas
. The
tools will include one and two person cross cut saws, bow saws, and axes.

We are looking for people that are familiar with the use of
these tools, as well as people who would like to learn the proper use of them.

The workshop will be held in Mena on February 19th and 20th and
is limited to 25 people. The deadline for registering is February 16th.
If you would be interested in participating, contact Sharon Hose at the Mena
Ranger District Office, 1603 Hwy 71 North, or call her at 479-394-2382 or slhose@fs.fed.us.

In addition to the cross cut saws, bow saws, and axes, we
are also going to have a demonstration on how to use the grip hoist. This is often used when working in wilderness
areas.
