Hobo Dinners!

Post by ulhiker on Mon Jun 30, 2008 9:23 am

This is not really a meal that you would prepare for a backpacking trip, but it's a great one for when you go car camping. Some of you may have had this when you were in Boy Scouts.
All of this can be done at home before you leave, so there is absolutely no prep time at camp.
Take a sheet of foil, and place sliced potatos on the foil. Next, place some sliced onions on top of the potatos. After this, place a hamburger patty on top of these. Cover the hamburger patty with another layer of potatos and onions. Season to taste. Cover all of this with another layer of foil. Seal up all the edges really good and then place in the cooler.
At camp, prepare a nice bed of coals and place the foiled ambrosia on the coals. Turn about every 2-3 minutes to prevent burning, and in about 8 minutes, remove from the coals.
Unwrap and enjoy.
BTW, I will be dining on this spectacular dish myself this evening up at Kyle's Landing on the Buffalo River with my beautiful bride. Very Happy

UL,
Those are very good. Me and a couple of my friends also do this when we car camp. We do it with peppers, onions, whatever else we have around, and some kind of long sausage link (its about a foot to a foot and a half long). They are so easy to make. One of my buddies even takes these along when we go backpacking because the sausage comes sealed in a package so it keeps pretty well. Hope ya'll have fun on the Buffalo. I'll just hang out here at my desk and dream of backpacking.
