Book: 98.6 Degrees: The Art of Keeping Your Ass Alive by Cody Lundin

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1586852345/ref=reg_hu-wl_mrai-recs I have read many survival books, and most are, just as Cody Lundin describes in this book, a reqrite of the old Air Force or Special Forces survival guides. In other words, pretty useless. This book is definately different. I highly recommend it, and his latest book about urban survival as well.

Colt:
I have this book. It is a great source of information regarding keeping your a$$ alive. I have not seen his new book, but will look forward to reading it soon. Another series of books to read are those by Tom Brown Jr. A lot of good information in those, too.

I was in Barns and Noble this weekend in Little Rock, and saw this guys book. Haha, this may be a good book, but I couldn't get past the hippieish picture of the author on the back.

Yeah, the title alone could kind of give you an idea, but didn't anyone ever teach you not to judge a book by its cover, ha ha.

Yeah... he is definately a hippy looking guy for sure. I just got his latest book in, "When All Hell Breaks Loose." Both are great books, if you can get past his hippiness. If it weren't for hippies, what would the world be like? Without hippies, we would have no one to make fun of. Wink

Those are some funny titles maan, hey pass that over dude and don't bogart it, SWEEET! Your right Colt, we need hippies, not to make fun of though, just to have a giant minority of people that don't shower so we can conserve our water supply. And a minority of people that don't like to work so there is more jobs for the people that do.

colt:
Have you had a chance to read his new book that you got? I've had his 98.6 degree book for several years and really liked it.
I'm wanting to buy this latest book, just have to find it.
Here is a couple of links to some more of his stuff:

I know that this guy appears to be out there A LOT, but I really like his approach to teaching survival skills. I've learned quite a bit from his books and articles.

His approach is different. And I love the fact that he works with Josh Bernstein at B.O.S.S. Digging for the Truth on History Channel was much better with Josh. Apparently Josh is starting a new how on Discovery Channel in August.

But, no, I have not had a chance to read his latest book. Just got it in the mail today from Amazon.com. It is bigger than 98.6 degrees, but seems to be written in the same way, with lots of illustrations and, just flipping through, lots of unconventional advice that you will not see in other books. That is why I like this guy.

Exactly!! That's why I like him too. Also, great to hear about Josh. Digging for the Truth died pretty quick after Josh left.

From Wikiedia.com:

"On February 20, 2007, Bernstein announced that he was leaving The History Channel and Digging for the Truth to join the Discovery Channel as an executive producer and host of a new prime-time series and specials. The Discovery series -- called "Into the Unknown with Josh Bernstein" -- is scheduled to premiere in mid-August 2008, and is expected to be just as adventurous and globe-trotting as Digging for the Truth, but with less of an archaeological focus."

So, his book isn't just another "regular" survival book? I've read tons of these and wasn't going to look into it if it was just going to be more of the same.

No. He's got a different approach that is worth the read. If you'd like, I can let you borrow my copy this weekend at the get-together.

Not at all, Kyle. It is one of the best I have read, and I have read a ton of them. Most are just recycled information from older books. Cody actually has his own information in his book. It is chock full of new ideas and just good stuff over all. I would recommend it to anyone. I will have a report of the new book before long.

I guess I'll have to buy it then. Thanks UL for the offer, but you don't want me to barrow the book. I mark all over books that I read to learn info.

Although I still highly recommend the book 98.6 Degrees, please do not waste your time on his new book. He spends the first half of the book on the mental state of urban survival, which is all fine and good (and important), but it could have been done in one chapter. He also spends a bunch of time in this first half talking about spiritualism and other hippy stuff that is in no way beneficial to this book. Although there is some decent practical knowledge in the second half of the book, it is not worth it to go through the first half. Anything that is in this book can be found in any number of other books.
