Whats the problem

Post by willky1 on Wed May 07, 2008 1:20 pm

So, this is just a little venting that I've got to get off my chest. What is so hard to understand about the Leave No Trace concept? You go somewhere and don't disturb it. Say on the trail unless its impossible. And if you brought it in, find some way to pack it out. To me it seems pretty simple, but for some reason I always take a stuff sack with me (silnylon of course....haha lightweight) and fill it with garbage left by other people. It seems to me that you go out into the wild to enjoy it, and if you enjoy it you will want to come back to it. If you come back to it do you want to see trash...no! Pack your trash out and if everyone did this, there would be no problem with litter in the woods. I know that some times it gets gross with old food, smelly wrappers, etc, but packing that out is better than junking up the woods. I guess my "to worried about the environment" side is coming out, so I digress. Sorry for the rambling, but as a counselor, I know it is good to vent every now and again...haha.

U nfortunately there are to many ignorant people in this world that don't care about anything but themselves and when they go into the wilderness they prove it by getting littering. It is unreal some of the stuff I have seen litterd on the trail from dirty diapers to adult soiled underwear. Some people don't belong there and are definately not welcome.

The thing that ticked me off the most when I lived in Townsend, was taking a dayhike in the GSMNP and finding trash all along the trail.

I would go up the Abrams Falls once a season and it always amazed me at the trash along the trail. If someone could pack in a full coke, why couldn't they pack out the empty can?

Bottom line is they don't care.
